Getting settled

Having got to Melbourne on our first morning we went for an initial walk around Albert Park Lake.  The only issue with that was working out how o get across Queens Rd,  which turned out to be go to the end of the road and use a footbridge serving a school (along with a horde of schoolkids.  The view from the Lake was pretty good.

After a refreshment break we did a final inspection on (what is to be) our apartment.  This went without a hitch.  We then wandered round the corner to check the nearby IGA which we had rejected the previous evening.  In fact it was pretty good!  Leaving there we found the Nando's next door had potential as a birding site.  A Silver Gull had also been involved but flew off with some chook bones before I could take a snap.
Then  it was on the tram to Swanston St to transfer more $ than I have personally dealt with in one transaction to our solicitors trust account.  The lady teller at Westpac was very good: she seemed pretty excited for us and very concerned that all went well so checked everything 4 ways from Christmas.  The solicitors got what they needed (and in due course settlement happened).

In the spirit of exploration we took ourselves off or a walk up the Yarra.  Skate-boarding was happening on Flinders Walk.

At some point around here I noticed this sign on a tram.
We crossed a bridge which was well endowed with art.
Also with text, talking about Melbourne's immigrant history.
We walked quite a bit further, up to the Seafarers Bridge ...
which we crossed and took trams back to our accommodation.

A little out of  sequence in fact but one of the interests was the building opposite the block we were staying in was being demolished: here are some images of the process.

The next two were taken a couple of days later when I walked by the site on the weekend.
This shows the muncher on the ground.
