Tennis finals Fishing Comp.

Image
I'm not sure if I should post this here but the snaps show the weather, and fish are wildlife....  And I own the blog so I guess can do as I please! At around 0617 this morning I noticed there was some action - or more possibly inaction, as they were just floating about - at the Karbeethong Jetty. A few folk were zipping in from the direction the Wharf. At 0648 this guy didn't need to be in such a rush. Indeed at 0702 gentle floating was still the go.  All sorts of boats. Just before the start.  My best count was 42 boats. Off they go. My guess was that about 40% of boats headed off towards Top Lake, 50% went towards Allan Head and 10% decided that Harrisons Channel was the go.

Cape Horn Bay track

Image
When we followed the Genoa River Fire trail we noticed a second track peel off to Cape Horn Bay.  On the 27th of January we decided to follow that and see where it ended up.  The intersection is clear in this route (from eBird) The reason for this photograph is to show the regrowth of the Allocasuarina littoralis.   This is a plant of interest to birders as it forms the food source for Glossy Black-Cockatoos.  (The plants have to be about 10 years old to get the appropriately developed cones, so these have got about 7 years to go.) There were a good lot of flowers on some of the trees. Others had cones from last year. This shrub was unusual.  INaturalist has suggested it is Daviesia latifolia , which does match quite well in Flora of Victoria , The Cape Horn Jetty is on the far side of the River, just visible in this image. On occasion the danger ta[e is quite reasonable.  In the logging industry branches such as that marked with the arrow are called "widow makers"

Mainly some container plants

Image
I used to call them pot plants, but to do so these days would be inviting a visit from the forces of repression.  "Evening all.  'Allo, 'allo, whats all this 'ere ven?"  The first three images are from the front of the house. A Hosta .  A long view of a Pineapple Lily ( Eucomis spp ) with more spikes than we have managed in the past. A close up. You might also like these snaps of some Cannas from the back garden.  The red ones have been around for a while ... .. but the yellow jobbies are a recent addition.

Some garden flowers

Image
We seem to have some nice flowers around the hacienda at the moment. A Magnolia flower earnt a pic with a mass of fallen stamens. All of those flowers were at the front of the house.  There are also some out the back.  These photos were actually taken to record the New Holland Honeyeaters! And stretching the meaning of "flowers" , but I wanted to record our first multiple fruit pick of tomatoes.  This year we are well endowed with Grosse Lissies!
