Fawkner Park

This Park is right out  the back of our building (accessed through a door on the ground floor) and is our default for morning walks.  John Pascoe Fawkner is much less well known as a name than John Batman as the founder of Melbourne, but it seems to me that while Batman explored the area generally Fawkner was the first to start the development of what is now the city area.

This post will be the repository of material about the Park going forward (unless an extra ad hoc post seems like a good idea).

Lets begin with an image of the Park also showing our building marked with an arrow.

An early morning shot of the Park from a bedroom window.
The buildings in the Park generally have a nod towards art deco and include a few plaques showing sporting action.
The trees are a highlight, especially the Moreton Bay Figs.
At the top (Toorak Rd) end of the Park is Christ Church and the associated school.  The spire is clearly visible from our bedrooms.
Detail of the Church and showing a visitor!
Incoming!
This explains the funny trailers on the outskirts of the Park!

Also with an aerial theme is this structure built over Commercial Rd on the South end of the Park.
I haven't managed to get a snap of a chopper landing on the helipad yet, but this one was heading that way seen from our Winter Garden.

On the 17th Frances was walking down to Woolies and saw a helicopter fired up with spinning blades  on the Alfred heliport.

Then up and away!
