Some beauties at at ANBG
On 19 September I had been asked to give a talk to the Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) about birds of Canberra Gardens. I'll put up some more about that in a later post. However in that day's Canberra Times there was an article about an orchid display in a greenhouse at the gardens: how could I miss the chance!
In fact the whole gardens were excellent, as might be expected in mid-Spring. I took a few snaps on the way to the glasshouse.
Banksia ericifolia
B. integrifolia
Telopea speciosissima (Waratah) just coming into flower.
This is the view of the glasshouse as you walk in.
Thelychiton tarberi: this is a split from Dendrobium speciosum with one being the epiphyte (tree growing) and the other the epilith (rock growing). I am not sure which is what as they were all epiurnae flowerpot growing).
This was labelled Dendrobium speciosum.
There was also a mauve orchid: possibly T. kingianum..
Here is a specimen of T tarberi in a more natural setting, on the edge of the rainforest gully. It is some time off flowering in this cooler area.
