Ballarat and after (day 5)

Basically the attractions of Werribee!  We had arranged with our daughter to meet her and the grandkids at the Werribee Zoo before going into the City.  We began by walking around the smaller enclosures.

I thought about trying to get a photo of this Orange-bellied Parrot that didn't show its captive nature!

This emu was having a fine time bathing the dam.
The lionesses were wandering around and came very close to the glass of their enclosure.  I'm not sure what it is eating: possibly a mineral lick.
I think these fat people are males.  Later, on the 'train' ride, we saw the females who were more sensible and immersed in the water,  These fat boys are going to be well sunburnt if they stay out all day.
A stroller jam for patrons of the ride.
I had not thought to go on the ride but it was very good.  A delay to begin with as the staff had to fit several wheelchairs on before other punters could board,  Here are a few snaps.  An Ibex plays cock-of-the-rock.
I think they keep the male and female ostriches in different paddocks.
A Willie Wagtail imitates an Oxpecker.
After finishing with the Zoo - about 3 hours in there - we decided to go back for another look at the WTP.  A group from the Waverly Camera Club were photographing a pair of Brolgas and these Cape Barren Geese (Bird of the Day).  They let us in to the first area.
A mixed flock of Spoonbills: 19 Royal and 34 Yellow-billed.
Most of our exploration was the same as the previous day although a couple of areas were omitted to save time.  We only got geographically misplaced once: I have just seen a comment by someone going there later expressing the hope that they don't get lost!  We thought we saw a sparrow fly onto a fence but on peering realised it was a Striated Fieldwren.  I see them occasionally at the Mallacoota Airfield.

A better snap of a Swamp Harrier!
In this image of a sandbar I have tagged the Common Terns with red dots.  This will support my report to eBird where the number was rated as high.
Then off to the City with Polly the GPS fired up.  For some reason she wasn't talking to us, but with Frances reading out the instructions we got the job done.  The crucial turn off the West Gate Bridge was made noting (again) that there is no mention of accessing the CBD by that route.  Whoever is responsible for the design and operation of the freeways in the West Gate area needs to get their dosage adjusted.

The view from our daughter's apartment is not too shabby.
I have always rated Melbourne as being rather like England.  Ass always Barry Mackenzie got it right when he said that "2 Poms and a dog would queue for a 6 stall dunny."  Here are a long line of Melbourne people queueing for a bar!
