Ballarat and after (day 3)

The day started with a good sunrise seen from the house ,,,

... and again as we walked down the road.
Our objective (met) was to do a lap of Lake Wendouree.  One of the sights encountered - and not expected - was a memento of the 1956 Olympic Games.  The rowing and (flat water) canoeing events were held on the Lake.
All Olympians with a connection to Ballarat were commemorated on granite markers.  I was surprised that Moneghetti had been to 4 Games.
Amale Musk Duck posed nicely beside the path.
We then headed for our next stop at Ocean Grove, on the coast South of Geelong.  I had expected the town to be about the size of Mallacoota (pop'n 1000).  In fact it is a large town - population 14,000 at the 2016 Census - 3 times the people of Lakes Entrance and almost as big as Bairnsdale!  After visiting one of the shopping centres we checked out the Nature Reserve.
The signage  - by Parks Victoria - was poor.  We didn't realise this gate in fact opened so went in the wrong direction.
Eventually we ended up at the lake we had aimed for.  We were surprised it wasn't full.
The fruit of the Warted Yate (a WA native that has escaped from gardens) were interesting.

After finding our accommodation we headed off to check out Queenscliff. I had a particular idea of going to Swan Island, but that r=turned out to be Defence property so inaccessible (except for golfers).  On shore a Pacific Gull posed well.
A bunch of Pelicans, Pied Cormorants and Royal Spoonbills posed nicely on Rabbit Island.
Some snaps of the centre of Queenscliff.

Apart from the oddness of these fisherpersons wading out about 50m, the group on the left were accompanied by their Border Collie!
The Heads - or at least the Sorrento part thereof.
At the Swan Bay Jetty a bunch of gulls were confronted!
Although they didn't cooperate well this image shows the comparison in size of Pied, and Little Pied Cormorants.
One of the boats moored off the ramp was covered with bird netting.  The other showed why that was a good idea!
Ocean Grove Beach was dog friendly!
The beach looking towards Point Lonsdale.  All off leash!
I think there are 8 pooches in this image.
A parasailer started off near the place we parked our car ...
... and headed off towards Barwon Heads.
