The joys of real estate (part 5)

There has been much activity since my last entry in this series.

Whiskers Creek Rd

We have exchanged contracts with a lovely young couple and expect to settle on 22 January 2019.  A slight issue has been the lawyer they chose who seems to feel that the best way of serving her clients is to annoy the other side.

Of course, we have to keep the place as it was when they last inspected, just before exchange.  A potential issue in that regard came with a large thunderstorm on 14 December causing the Creek to flood far more than I have every seen.
I think everything has recovered from that with 7 cubic metres of road base spread on the drive.  One small bit of fencing will have to be replaced.

Another road issue has arisen with a discussion with the removalists in that a few trees require pruning to get their truck up to the house.  A pole pruner will be hired after Christmas.

Bunda St.

The biggest entertainment here was organising the access to the building.  It appeared that several of the swipes had gone missing.  It then emerged (after I had got the missing ones deactivated) that they were the remotes for the  car park so I had to get them reactivated.  Plus one of the remotes was for a completely different building!

Whatever: we now have access and are gradually moving some stuff in there.

Our storage cage is now graced with some shelving courtesy of our daughter.

Coast

On our last visit to Mallacoota we checked some possible residences down there.  One at Moruya Heads had some appeal but was on a very steep block and the house was a confusing jumble on 3 levels: you'd spend all your time going up and down steps!  A place near Bega had great views and was very well built, but had a high-tech pool that would be impossible to manage (and would get little use (by me at least).

We also checked a place at Mallacoota, even though it was a bit further from Canberra than we had wanted.  On getting home we thought about this and it seemed to have everything we wanted.  So we decided to have a second look, on a down and back trip on the 19th.

It was pretty cloudy all the way down to the start of Imlay Rd.
We started off at a temperature of 17c and it had only dropped to 15 by the time we got to Lake Williams at Nimmitabel.
Shortly after we started on Imlay Rd it started to drizzle and by the high point (about 12km in) we were driving in cloud.  After a comfort break at Imlay Creek - now with spiffy shelter shed ....
...  - we carried on through drizzle and road works.  I'd like to say the profile of the guy on the left is due to his loose jacket but I took a look as we drove past and it is nearly all road-worker!
A minor cock-up ensued due to me misremembering the time we were to meet the agent.  We filled in the time with a pleasant walk along Tip Beach.  The look around the house was pretty successful and we continued to feel positive.  This Ceratopetalum gummifera in the drive was spectacular: it is called NSW Christmas Bush
Next to it is is a modest sized Magnolia grandiflora.
So we got home and put in an offer which the owners have accepted.  Full steam ahead!
