Suds on a eucalypt

November is turning out to be a rather damp month.  It is now the 15th and we have had rain on 10 days thus far.  On 5 of those days we've copped >10mm.  (I suspect that by the end of today we will have accumulated more than 800mm for the year.

We have noticed in the past that in periods of steady rain a Yellow Box (Eucalyptus meliodora) tree visible from our sun room tends to become covered in streams of suds.  Hopefully these are visible in this image.

As far as we have observed - and I confess this has not been done systematically - it is only this tree which shows the effect.  A topic for future investigation, and judging by the weather forecast there are plenty of opportunities coming up!  In the meantime, any suggestions as to why the suds form would be welcome.

In fact the topic is very well covered in an article by Stephen Skinner in the Waterwatch newsletter.
