In Canberra (briefly)

The day started with me playing a couple of social croquet matches.  In the first myself and my partner had much higher handicaps than our opponents so were happy to fight them to us losing 6-5 (we ran out of time).  The second was a much closer match-up and after a slow start (my - different - partner and I lost the first 2 hoops) I hit a jump-shot on hoop 11 to win 7-4.

Then a visit to the dentist and back to the Croquet Club for a competition game.  My opponent was a relative new player but seen as very competent.  And so it was.  Basically she bashed me all around the lawn with very good roquets; a couple of hoops I should have run got in the jaws (and were duly whacked out) and a 3 metre jump-shot knocked her ball through while running the hoop 🤬🤬🤬.  So 1- 7 was a fair result.

On the other hand the sunset was pretty spiffy.

Early on the next morning the moonset was also interesting as it included Black Mountain Tower.

That was shortly followed by sunrise!  Of course, on the other side of the building!
A worker appeared, getting in training for leaf fall in Glebe Park.
More sunrise.
An interesting cloud band in front of Black Mountain.
Some colours in a street tree in Allara St: one of the few that has developed well.  Most are still green or - especially poplars-  have lost most of their leaves.
It seems only yesterday that the jobsworths tidied up after the last Floriade.  Here we go again getting ready for the next.  What a waste of money.
The fruit bat camp in Commonwealth Park.

A Darter in Nerang Pool.
An Intermediate Egret was seen in Kelly's Swamp
Together with a Bin Chook.
We then went to the site of the National Rock Garden.  This sign has been in situ since at least 2015, when we visited on a U3A  Canberra Field Trip, and nothing has happened in the intervening 8 years..  They could partially fund development of this site by withdrawing ScuMo's salary and superannuation, and make up the balance by abolishing the NCA
Here are some images of the Federation Rocks.  I suggest folks follow this link to get details!
