Back to Mallacoota
We were very keen to get off to an early start to avoid the people heading to the Coast for the Easter break. Those objectives were pretty much achieved.
The moonset was again interesting.
As was sunrise. We did a walk around Reid noting that the Oaks were still in full, and green, leaf.
Packing up then occurred and we left the Manhattan on the Park cark about 0925 and had a fairly easy drive to about Royalla where we started to encounter a few muppets driving ~5kph below the speed limit. They all got dealt with, giving out a special Miss Piggy award to the goose who sat in an overtaking lane doing 3kph more than the vehicle they were overtaking because they were scared of exceeding the speed limit.
Then, just outside Bredbo, we were invited to donate some used air to an RBT unit. Really pretty pointless, expecting to get people who had been on the turps at 1020 hrs. Perhaps the target was folk who had really tied one on the previous night? To be over 0.05 at 1020 - assuming they didn't go for the Breakfast of Champions - they would need to have been (0.05+(0.02*8))= .21 at if they stopped drinking at 2am (or .25 if they piked at midnight). Not impossible numbers, but pretty impressive for mid week.
Due to the punter in front of us having a chat with his cop we were a bit slow getting away. Thus all the muppets we had dealt with were now back in front of us. A few km further we came across a long stream of traffic behind a b-double. The truck was blocked by a small white car being driven (??) at 80-90 kph. Truck got past on a climbing lane and the other vehicles gradually got past. Most of them went in to Cooma, so by the end of Trucking Yard Lane we were right behind the b-double, which was written up as coming from Orbost so we knew he'd be going to Bombala (but not along Imlay Rd).
The truck was going pretty well but slowed right up, and got dealt with, shortly after Nimmitabel (where the temperature had been a mild 19 degrees, the same as when we left Canberra). We expected he would regain the pole position while we refueled in Bombala. Soon after turning down the Monaro Highway towards Bombala we dealt with a triple decker full of sheep. To our surprise after filling up with diesel as we passed the roundabout in Bombala we saw the sheep-mobile just crossing the River and no sign of the b-double. On on.
The rest of the trip was straightforward although, once we got to the Princes Highway, we commented on how heavy the traffic was and especially the number of caravans coming towards us. We then realised that they could have left Melbourne at 7am and got into NSW by 1pm.
On getting home we checked the weather forecast - damp for the next 5 days - and chucked on a load of washing as it was nicely warm (about 24 degrees). A large cloud threatened ...
