Melbourne Trip Part 2

After waking up and breaking our fast Jack took us off for a tour of Sale Common, his local patch for birding.  The idea was a car shuffle, leaving our car at the bottom of the map and starting the walk at the top right

The area was very wet.  I would be surprised if stock would do well on this marsh.  The boardwalk was very good , although birds were hard to come by.  Jack heard some Crakes but they didn't show them selves,

A nice sign of the area.
The best bird of the walk was this Egret.  Judging by the relatively short neck it was an Intermediate Egret.  A contender for Bird of the Day.
A Darter compared with a Little Pied Cormorant.
Male and Female Darters.
Probably a pair of Whistling Kites.  The upper bird flew in carrying a stick: whether nest building or a nuptial gift was unpickable.
An interesting fungus.  As I don't have fungus books with me have put to iNaturalist for iD,
A very informative sign.  It names the reeds as Phragmites australis.
Three artworks on the supports of the bridge.

We then called in at Frog Hollow B&B to try for a Singing Honeyeater seen there recently.  This was successful with the bird becoming Bird of the day.

On, on to Melbourne.   As I had copied the directions from Google Maps this successfully got us to Franklin St where we were staying.  Unfortunately there was no indication of where to park so we went into the Aldi Park initially.  Check in was chaos - another foretaste of what is to come: suffice it to say that looking at star ratings on Wiki this joint doesn't make 1 star.

We had a pleasant evening at Ingrid's apartment - not too far away!
