A Rat in the Rank?

The title of this post is a reference to a brilliant film about Leichardt Council.  It also describes goings on around our compost bins on Saturday.

We were busy doing some gardening in the vegetable garden, accompanied by the small dog.  She spent most of the time investigating the compost bins.
You'll note that the bins are made out of old pallets captured at the Captains Flat tip (in North American, landfill) several years ago.  She seems able to slip in between the slats where they are vertical, but not where they're horizontal.  Needless to say having got into the bin with more matured material she could smell something in the new stuff bin.

So I inserted her into the other bin, which was full of rather unpleasant stuff.
Note the lifted front paw: she can smell something interesting in there!  So she got well in to things.
Unfortunately she didn't find a rodent.  Surprisingly she wasn't too smelly when she emerged!
