Aftermath 2: Queanbeyan gets fixed!

In my previous post about the aftermath of the floods in Queanbeyan I included a couple of shots of the pile of logs and the water pouring over the low level crossing at Morrisset St.  I had thought this would take weeks to clear.

Cast a rock at the corvids (or, for traditionalists, stone the crows) when we went in today the crossing was clear!  What a tribute to the hard work of a bunch of folk.

Getting over the road it was obvious that there was some damage to the small park. 

Given the amount of water flowing over road this is far from surprising - it was still at least 1m over the road on Friday and probably 4- 6 m over it at the peak.  The Northern edge of this park is a bike path.  Actually the word "was" might be more appropriate there, but I hope it will be restored.  This is the situation a tad further downstream: first a view up the valley, then a close-up of where the bike path used to go

Obviously it was far more important to get the road open than to clear the crud off the path.  VERY WELL DONE workers!

My final comment is that I also went to the suspension bridge and am fairly sure that I saw a platypus cruising around in the middle of the stream.  So they seem tohave survived despite all the fallen trees that used to provide cover for their burrows having been swept away.
