A collection of FAQ photos, mostly taken on the 15th of November.  The beginning was a couple of early balloons overflying Fawkner Park (and possibly hoping The Alfred helicopter doesn't have to leave in a hurry). One of the frequent sights looking South is a parasail ripping along the Middle Park seafront. Sometimes there are two or more. What makes this surprising is that the beach is at least 2km from home but the parasails are easily visible to a naked eye. The sails of yachts can also be seen at times - these were about 1730hrs, so after work hours, on 13 November. (The blue cast is because I didn't want to mess about opening the louvres of the Winter Garden so the photos were taken through tinted glass.)  In the first image a parasail can also be picked up. I then used my longer lens, at full zoom plus digital multiplier.  These are probably at least 3km from the apartment. On the 15th the sunset was attractive in a restrained way.

Another trip to Canberra

The drive up was pretty reasonable apart from surprisingly heavy traffic on the Cooma to Bombala  section.  There were a couple of groups of Italian cars - 3 Alfas and about 10 km later about 6 Ferraris - but I have no idea what they were about.   After settling in the main attraction was the sun setting behind Black Mountain. On the morning of the 9th as we set off on our morning walk we noticed the abseilers were doing the business on people's windows.  These were on the South Tower in Allara St: the images are a little out of the order in which I took but seem to sequence OK> This continues to be a job for the imagination-challenged! We got to Commonwealth Park and to my amazement found Floriade being rebuilt.  My suspicion is that it is less than 6 months since the beds were removed!  An alert auditor might like to explore the value for money given by this rubbish - especially the astonishing amount which must be paid for hiring the tempor...

In Canberra February-March 2024

Image
I have needed to get a few medical tests done so we have been in Canberra for a few days in late February/ early March.  I'll report on the tests as and when they happen.   The Enlighten Festival will be happening as from Friday 1 March.  Part of this is a dinosaur event in the square between the Legislative Assembly and the Library.  They have been setting up, and I have marked 4 specimens in each of the next two images.  Which ones are dinosaurs? 4 is not a dinosaur.  2 and 1 are very well-known species of dinosaur.  3 is the location of the Legislative Assembly and I don't wish to be rude to dinosaurs. 2 is a thistle, and 3 is a Sabre-toothed tiger: neither of these are dinosaurs.  4 is again a dinosaur and 1 is again the location of the Legislative Assembly and I don't wish to be rude to dinosaurs. In the evening of the 27th we went for the cardiology tests.  They seemed pretty comprehensive and we received a very detailed briefing f...
