The House(s) of Fran_mart

 This is a report on a visit to the Ian Potter Centre (IPC) off Federation Square to view an exhibition of work by Reko Rennie.  He is of an indigenous background and started off his art career as a graffiti artist (which is repeatedly stated on the cards of various works).  Much of the commentary on his work was  🤮whereas the work itself was very interesting and clever. This introductory panel isn't too bad. Going in to the IPS the first point to strike one's eye is the camouflaged Roller. I remembered having seen his video using this car before, possibly as part of one the Indigenous Triennales put on by the NGA.  And indeed the film is shown as part of this show.  Here is the driver's view going down the bitumen.  We started by driving to Westgate Park.  Our satnav failed somewhat on this as it took us to point 1 where there was a bus stop and an entry, but nowhere to park.  We ignored a few "no entry" signs at the Boeing premises until we could turn round and worked our way over to point 2 which was the actual entrance. The Park has an active Friends group.  We saw several of the Earth Series Sculptures. These artworks by Lyn Moore are made from natural materials. Work was happening under the bridge (the red patches are workers).  These would have be amongst the worst working conditions I have seen: many metres above the ground; enclosed; horrendous traffic noise.  As the traffic management systems of Melbourne have beaten us into submission we decided that rather than attempt to go to the You Yangs we would walk SP1 to school at Carlton Gardens and explore some territory nearby.  I thought that if things worked out we could also take a tram out to St Kilda. The day began with a quite pleasant sunrise sort of visible through the buildings. It was quite a short walk to school with SP1 - a little surprising as she was in penguin mode.  On arrival there were already a few punters on the street.  (Obfuscation added by me.) When the gate opened the horde poured in towards the new school building. This is the old school building  dating from 1884. We then headed off into Fitzroy.  For some reason I had thought of that as being in the Western suburbs rather than the inner East.  This means that in the 1989 or 1990 the answer to Wendy Harmers question "What are the three VFL teams whose name begins with F?" had 1 entry ...
